Cave Bear

Cave Bear

Cave Bears (Ursus Spelaeus) lived in Europe during the Pleistocene Era (2 million years ago) and became extinct about 24,000 years ago just before the Last Ice Age. They were comparable in size to the modern Brown Bear and males weighed from 400-500 kilograms. (Females weighed considerably less around 250 kilos). They were predominately herbivorous but new research suggest that they were omnivorous with evidence of opportunistic scavenging and feeding from insects nests.
